Get It On~The Silver Ring Thing

On Sunday, May 24th, Kyle, Kurt and myself went to a youth presentation entitled "Get It On." We ate wonderful barbeque food and then both boys went with the rest of the Middle School kids upstairs to watch an hour long video on purity, waiting for marriage and what the bible says about this subject. While they are watching their video, the High School students are in another room watching theirs, and us parents are watching ours. Afterwards, the kids can decide if they want to put on a purity ring and make that "promise" to God that they will wait until marriage to give themselves completely to their spouse and no one else until then. Their is more information on this at http://www.silverringthing.com/giofilm.asp
As you can see, by the pictures, Kyle and Kurt decided to make this promise. I was so proud and the tears came easily, of course.
When they went to school on Tues. they had many kids ask about the rings and they told everyone about it. Not one single kid joked or made fun of any of my kids; in fact they wanted to know when the next event was!!!! How awesome!
And yes, even I purchased a ring, too. This way I have a daily reminder to pray for purity for ALL my boys!!
1 Thessalonians 4:3-4
(New International Version) 3It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; 4that each of you should learn to control his own body[a] in a way that is holy and honorable

Happy Birthday Kole!!!

I may be 2 days late, but I know with everything going on this week, Kole will understand.
11 years ago, on April 23, 1998, I went into my OB office for a scheduled visit at 2pm, with Kevin. Kole was due on April 26th and with my previous two children all coming so quickly, we weren't taking any chances.
The doctor did his examination and wouldn't ya know it-dilated to a 3, with no labor pains, I might add. Off to the hospital we went!
Once at Riverside, the on-call doc broke my water and we waited. We figured that since Kyle only took 4 hours once the water broke, and Kurt 3, that Kole would be 2. Makes sense right? Welllll....by 6pm NOTHING!! No contractions, no progrssion, nothing!! The only thing we could figure was that w/ the first 2 the doctor had also given me Petocin after they broke my water. Well, I hate that stuff with a passion and declined it this time. So..........at 7pm I said "bring it on!"
At 9:32pm he was born!! 8lb 1oz and 21 in. long. Cute as a button!!
Love ya Kole!! You were the best baby ever and a geat kid today!!
Love,
Mom

The Best Dog In the Whole World

RIP My Rocko Boy: 3/12/05-4/22/09
Today is one of the saddest days of our lives. We had a great dog~actually, the best dog in the whole world (no offense to Copper, our puppy). He was so laid back, loved to snuggle, listened to commands and even stayed in our yard without a fence! I even remember one time about a year ago that I was so upset about something and crying uncontrollably and he followed me into my bedroom, picked up his ball and proceeded to try and get me to play with him. I think he thought it would make me feel better....which it did-it brought a smile to my face.
On Sat. when Scot went to work, Rocky came in to sleep under the covers with me like he always did. Unfortunately he started to vomit-everywhere on the bed! An hour later he threw up again and I called the vet. "Just like a kid," I said. "Has to get sick on a weekend." The checked him out, figured it was a 'parasite', gave him some fluids, an anti-nausea shot and sent us on our way.
We were good for the day, thanks to the shot. Around 6:30 the vomit started to fly, literally. Six puke fests later I was on my way to the Vet Hospital in Toledo with the poor guy. They were really busy!!! 90 minutes later we are leaving with more fluids, another shot and some medicine. They wanted to do x-rays then, but due to finances (you have to pay up front) we had enough for the x-ray, but then wouldn't have enough to treat him.
On Sun. he woke up and vomited three times in 30 min. I gave him some chicken/rice combination that the vet recommeded and 10, 2, and 6pm. Worked great!!! If you ever have a vomiting dog, I highly recommend it. No more vomit for 2 days!! Of course I had Mon. off so it was a great day! I should've known better.
On Tues. morning around 1am he started up again. All night long I had to clean him, and the bed, and the carpets up. We saw the Doc around 9am and they did an x-ray. She thought he had eaten what looked like a plastic baggie and it was preventing any food/liquid from passing through the stomach into the intestine. They kept him and did a Barium treatment. This is when the dog drinks a white liquid and the take a bunch of x-rays throughout the day and the liquid is highlighted in his body, to see where it goes.
I picked him up at 7:30pm. They decided they needed to do surgery this morning on his stomach to remove whatever is blocking.
I brought my baby back at 9am. Went to work. At 10:40am the Doc calls: "Bad news-he has pancreatic cancer. That's the blockage." She recommended we put him down because it is a fast moving cancer and he would suffer. VERY UNEXPECTED!!!
The worst part was telling my kids. I had to go to 3 different schools and break the news. My older 2 seemed to be ok and opted not to go but requested he be creamated so we can keep his ashes. I found out later that they were a mess the rest of the afternoon.
Kole and Scotie came and said good-bye. It is very difficult to explain to a six year old what is going on to a dog and what it means to put him to sleep and creamate him. I still don't think he understands.
Rocko was like another kid to me. This was the hardest thing I ever had to do and I have been thru some pretty tough stuff! My whole family will miss him terrible forever and will never forget him ever!

New Job

Well, tomorrow is the official start of my new job! I am now the IS Coordinator for Walgreens on Navarre/Wheeling. I am very excited to be 'contributing' to our family income and hope that my husband will be able to soon quit that awful driving job that he took on in Aug. to catch us up.
I am a little scared: the kids, routine, rushing around, babysitters, what if they get sick?, etc, etc. I know it will all work out in the end.

Basketball

Well, its the last week of basketball for Kole and Scotie. I have to say that where I have enjoyed watching their games/practices, it will be nice for some down-time. Yes, I have a lot of that right now, but its stressful trying to make sure that your kids have rides (and sometimes at the last minute if they forget to tell you about a scrimmage!), and that I have a ride to go watch. I didn't get to watch hardly any practices this season, but have made it to all the games.
We have one week of break, and then track season starts for Kyle. Ahhhhhhhh.........."run, Kyle, run!"

Ouch!

Okay, so I am a klutz!! I was being a good girl: I was on my way to exercise at Lifestyles for the first time in like 6 months! I was excited and man was I ready!!
Crash!!! Literally,.............that exercise plan came to an extreme halt. On my way into Lifestyles I slipped on some ice and broke my ankle. Thankfully, the spinning class had seen me fall 'and not get up' so they came to my rescue. I was honestly expecting a bone to be poking through my skin, it was that loud!
An ambulance ride and a few x-rays later revealed that I had broken my ankle in 3 places and also dislocated it. Two days later I received 9 screws and 1 plate compliments of Dr. A from Bay Park Hospital. I will be in a soft cast for 2-4 weeks and then a walking boot (that I am not supposed to walk on)for another 2-4 weeks. The worst part? It just had to be the RIGHT ankle! So no driving either!!
That's okay..........I needed some down time right? LOL

Stress? Not this year!

New year! We all make resolutions.........
One thing that I had resolved to do this year (when I posted my resolutions on MySpace)was to relax. Sounds easy enough, but is it? I think I have come a long way in the past 2 years with that. One main reason (as you can see from the picture here)is that stress is not healthy for you. It can cause long-term health problems and sometimes even death. This alone is my reason for making sure I commit to this.
One way to reduce the stress in your life is to eliminate that (or those) that stress you out. I have chosen that this year. In my gut I feel lousy, but I know that this is the best way to handle it, for mine, and my family's, health.
I pray every day, and all the time, about this and God is helping relieve this. If it is meant to be......it will happen.

No Diet!!!

Well, new year..........hmmmm. I promised myself I wouldn't use the word: diet.
About 2 weeks back while at the doctor, she noticed my blood pressure has been pretty high for the last 1-2 years. She suggested that if I 'maybe' drop 20-30 lbs. that it would help.
After chatting for a few moments, I mentioned that both of my parents are diabetic. So........she suggested counting carbs and calories. NOT A DIET!!! (sounds like a diet to me..lol).
Anyways-starting Mon. (now today since it is after midnight), I will be doing this. I don't want to be dependent on medication for high blood pressure (which is where I am headed), and I definately do not want to be diabetic. So, I guess I need to eat like a diabetic, but I am allowed to splurge at 'events' .......lol.
We'll see................................
